And we're back!
Well, this was one whirlwind of a week.
My girlfriends and I went down to NJ to attend Vinnie's memorial service. It reminded me of that scene in "Steel Magnolias" (no apologies to the men who've never seen this quintessential chick flick) where all the ladies congregate around Shelby's coffin in support of her mother. After the service, we drove to a WaWa (the equivalent of a 7-11 here in New York - only WAY better) and gorged on sandwiches, chips, sodas, candy...my girl Lisa looked at me - my arms full of calorie-laden snacks - and she said "this is so bad for us". I said to her, "either I eat this, or I'm going straight to the first bar I can find and start drinking." We agreed that the snacks were the best way to go.
The girls have adjusted nicely to their school routine - they enjoy taking the bus now. Every morning they stand at the door, and say "Oh yellow school bus....where are you??" and when they get off the bus at the end of their day, they wave happily and say, "Bye yellow school bus - see you tomorrow!" Its so stinkin' cute. The only thing that sucks is the meltdowns. They're not napping at school, so I can usually count on one meltdown around 5:30pm before dinner, and then they meltdown right before bed. Miss Princess is too funny - every night she gets out of the bath, and while I'm trying to put on her PJ's, she rolls over, sticks her little bunny under her head like a pillow and says, "I'm tired." She's also fixated on Barney - who I cannot stand...that, and "Yo Gabba Gabba" - this ridiculous show on Noggin TV. The kids love it, and I have to console myself with the knowledge that at least they talk about positive stuff - like waiting your turn, how to brush your teeth...that kind of thing.
My parents just returned from a five day Bermuda cruise. The day after they returned, I went to with the girls and my parents to an outdoor picnic. My mom went running after Dr. D, turned over on her ankle and broke it. She broke one ankle and sprained the other. I cannot believe it. So now she's got a hot pink cast, and I've got an extra side job as my mom's part-time caretaker. Love it.
Today is my 5th wedding anniverary with DH - five years and we never had a fight - ha ha ha. My MIL is coming over tomorrow to watch the girls and we are going out to dinner and a movie - I really want to see "3:10 to Yuma"...Russell Crowe and Christian Bale in the SAME movie?? Now that's an anniversary present I can get with. DH came home with a big honkin' box of Godiva chocolate for me, and Dr. D came running - grabbed the box and said, "chocquate" - so of course now I have to share my expensive chocolate with her. I gave her a piece and promptly hid the box. Some things Mommy shouldn't have to share.
