Motherhood: Not for the squeamish.
Hi everyone.
I'm back from last week's hiatus; women and their nutty hormones, huh? Nothing like a mini-mid-life crisis with a side order of PMDD to make one's week.
The weather here was absolutely unbearable this week: hot, humid, nasty...walk outside the house and feel like the air has been ripped from your lungs kind of hot. So, we've been using the pool a bit. For those who are here regularly, I'm officially apologizing for bitching about the pool maintenance. I was blissfully floating around in the middle of a hot summer afternoon (the girls were napping), and thinking to myself "it just doesn't get better than this". We got the girls in the pool as well, and Dr. D. is (as usual) the daredevil. She was in her little tube-thingie, spinning around, kicking her little feet...while Miss Princess hung onto me for dear life.
Dr. D's allergies have been bothering her quite a bit this week. She's got a nasty runny nose, but no other symptoms. I've been giving her Claritin, but that makes her bounce around the room like a cue ball on a bumper-pool table. She flies around like the Tasmanian devil, leaving destruction in her wake. Here's the thing though - (and if you're a "delicate" sort, you might want to navigate away from this page now) - we have, well...a booger situation. D's nose is so full of crusty, nasty boogies, and my mission this week has been to liberate them. Add to my existing job description - official nose picker. Jeez.
One morning this week, she was so congested, it woke her up at 6am, and she was unable to get back to sleep. DH rescued her from bed, and brought her into our room. A shot of Claritin, a few shots of saline nasal spray, and some nose-picking later, she and I were watching "Maisy", and it brought me back to the days when she was just an infant - D. was always the first baby up in the morning and I'd feed her in the bed -- and suddenly she leaned over and said to me, "Gimme hug." So amazing.
Miss Princess still testing her limits this week. She's made up her mind that she's happy getting ANY attention from me, good or bad. She's cute as hell with DH though - whenever she sees him getting dressed to leave, she walks up to him, holds out her hand and says, "for ride?" - as in, 'take me with you for a ride!' Oh, and she tells me she loves me! Its the best! Of course, it sounds like, "Yah-yoo!"...but I know what she's saying. She's also learned to say "thank you" - but she hasn't figured out yet how that works. For instance, she'll finish her little juicebox, throw it in the garbage herself, and then say "thank you!" Cute as hell. She's a real pain in the ass sometimes, but she's got great manners.

Christine,
Thanks for the visit, and for the comments:-) If you are lucky, nobody else will post, and you'll get a visit from Michele in the morrow!
Oh, it may be deliberate, but may not: but your profile doesn't list your blog (I had to go to Michele's to get to it).

I'm often amazed at how my standards have changed since we became parents. Between boogers, boo boos and other bodily productions, nothing seems to get to me anymore. Before kids, however, I might have turned green upon reading and entry like this.
Now, I simply shrug with empathy. Parents get it.
Hope it cools off for you soon. This summer has indeed been brutal.
