Are You Talkin' To ME??

So, did y'all vote in the Primaries? I did, with considerable difficulty. My polling place had changed since I moved in 2002, and my name wasn't in "the book". The polling folks all stared at me with "This does not compute" looks on their faces, and then decided to let me submit a paper ballot - which really disappointed me because I think using the polling booth is kinda fun.

In other news, I joined a gym this week - well, OK...the local Y. But it was a great deal, and they have a bitchin' pool. I'm told I'll have to wear a swim cap. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, because I'm thinking that swim caps are seriously uncool. Anyway, I joined the gym because I've come the realization that I'm horribly close to 40 (EEK!), I'm overweight, I have hypertension...and it would really suck for my children if I were to drop dead of a heart attack before they even reach 10 years old. So, for me this is not about getting into a dress for my sister's wedding, or a bathing suit come summer; this is about improving my health so that I can live for my daughters.

I should also mention that I joined with my mom, and that I imagine I'll be spending lots of time showing my mom how to work the machines. But its all good.

On a related note, the other day I was heading home from a very fruitful shopping trip when these high-school kids came weaving through the traffic, speeding. They tried to cut me off to get where they were going, but they weren't able to. Mind you, I wasn't TRYING to box them in, it was just a timing thing. All of sudden, this fricken little pissure leans out the window and screams, "You fat bitch!"

...I was several clicks down the road before I asked (to no one in particular) - "did he mean me?"
And in that instant, I was glad I don't have a carry permit for my gun.

This week I appeared before the grand jury to testify against the asshole who robbed my house almost two years ago. They'd collected DNA evidence from my house, and finally matched it to some loser who is already in jail for robbing someone else's house. Its nice to have closure, but it would have been even nicer to have my husband's wedding ring back.

Going out tomorrow to shop for a horrible bridesmaid dress. Wish me luck, or something.
