Deal-breakers.

This was a crazy week. Crazy busy. I've been spending more time than I'd like taking my mom hither and yon. You may remember that she broke her ankle just after Labor Day; she's still recuperating - her cast is off, but she's in a lot of pain. Don't get me wrong - I'd do anything for my mom...but these days, from the time she leaves the house, its like an egg timer is running. She's good for about an hour, then she starts the downward spiral. She's not resting like she should, and she insists on going out/running errands/Christmas shopping...she wants to do these things because it makes her feel more "normal" and like her old self, but she gets home in such pain that it merely drives home the point that she's not quite back to normal yet.

Please don't tell her, but I actually snuck out to the mall to do some shopping alone.

Speaking of shopping, DH gave me my Christmas present: a shopping spree. I spent quite a bit of money at the local Sephora - restocking all of my essentials. Lots of Philosophy stuff. Lots. I am going to be smelling and looking good for months to come! Whoo-hoo! My crow's feet are rejoicing as we speak!

Watched the replay of the Oprah's "favorite things" show. Seriously, I've never seen grown women reduced to babbling idiots. They just screamed their heads off for any old thing that Miss Oprah decided to throw at them. I mean, I can understand them getting psyched over new refrigerators...but cupcakes?? Oprah tells them that she's sending them a box of cupcakes, and those gals were throwing their hands in the air like, "Hallelujah! I'm getting some CAKE!!"

Speaking of cake, I got a full sentence out of Dr. D. this week. I don't usually let the girls have a lot of snacks when they get home from school, but she walked into the kitchen and said, "I want chocolate cake." Damn, girl. You can have whatever you want when you ask me like that. It doesn't seem like much, but that was a VERY big deal for us.

The girls had a Christmas breakfast at their school today. They brought in "Santa" to deliver gifts to all the kids. Miss Princess is TERRIFIED of Santa. Terrified. We've been working on it. A couple of times she's told me that "Santa Claus is coming"...I thought that maybe she'd be OK with getting her present from Santa at the Christmas party - but alas...I was confronted with this:

No no no no. Not that. Anything but that. I cannot handle the "upside-down-U" face. I fold like a lawn chair when I see this face. Wouldn't you?

And as I leave you (hopefully to finish decorating my damn Christmas tree), I'm loving this video - pole dancing strippers on the NYC subway - the observer's faces are priceless.

so far i have been very fortunate with my folks health. and they still take good care of each other (of course they are just now 60). but still, even healthy, shopping with my mom can be a headache, othertimes its an outright nightmare. throw in a toddler and a teenager and im ready for a nice glass of wine!

Hello, Michele sent me to see this video (hilarious) and read about your daughter (what a sad face - poor kid.)

Of course, now I want chocolate, too.
