There's NOTHING on the agenda this weekend...
...and I couldn't be happier. The month of May is always such a busy one - communions, baptisms, the girls' birthday, Memorial Day blah blah blah. We have NO plans this weekend, and that rocks. Of course, since DH will be home I'm tempted to put him to work doing all sorts of things, but I'll try to restrain myself.
Sorry I was away last weekend - we did the Memorial Day back-to-back BBQ extravaganza, including a long drive to Long Island in holiday traffic - always fun. Dr. D swam in my BIL's "big pool" (meaning, not the kiddie pool) - she was obsessed with the pool, and I finally broke down and stuck her in an inner tube, and off she went. She's really shaping up to be quite a tomboy - if there's an opportunity to get dirty, muddy, wet, stinky, and nasty, she's there. The other day, DH was watering the lawn and after he turned the sprinklers off, she ran right to the lawn, and laid down in the wet grass. I can't really complain, I was quite a tomboy in my day too. I should just stop holding on too tight, and let her get dirty if she wants to. I just keep thinking, "damn, those stains are NOT coming out in the wash!!"
Dr. D. also ate pizza last weekend for the first time - I was eating a slice, and offered her some (fully expecting her to say no) but instead she ate practically my entire piece. You could have knocked me over with a feather. In the last two weeks, she's tried four new foods - raisins, chips, pizza and pretzels. I hope this is a continuing trend. Miss Princess however is still on her diet.
And speaking of eating, I went to the dentist this week for the first time in...at least two years, I'm ashamed to say. I have SEVERE dental phobia - I get panic attacks and have been known to cry in the dentist's chair. The only reason I went is because I've approached critical mass, and could put it off no longer. Living on a liquid diet and gumming my food just isn't working for me. I found a new dentist closer to home, and she's really very nice. My former dentist is in NYC (and a darling man I might add who completely catered to my phobia), and its really not practical for me to give up a full day to go into the city. I took 10mg Valium before going, and it worked like a charm! I didn't cry at all, but then again, all they did was take x-rays.
By the time I walked out of the office I had a treatment plan that involves filling several cavities, replacing a broken crown, and capping a root canal. Oh, and an optional bleaching. My cost AFTER insurance? About $1400. YIKES.
First of all, why do ALL dental insurance plans SUCK ASS??! Just about everyone I talk to complains about their dental coverage - its a total racket! And while we're at it, I sure did miss the boat when it comes to a choice of profession. From here on in, I'm totally pushing my daughters to be dentists - at least I know they'll be wealthy, and able to take care of me in my old age!
I'm off to drown my sorrows and try to figure out where the $1400 is coming from. Lucky for me, I can still drink through a straw and get sufficiently tanked.

I get the girls' birthday and Memorial Day, but why would there be more communions and baptisms in May than any other month? In our church, we have communion once a month and baptims when there are babies to baptise which could be any time of year. Just curious..
Thanks for visiting me. I left a comment a couple of posts down, too. Have a nice weekend (it's a long one here - Queen's Birthday which is really in April but she gets a public holiday for it in June, in NZ).

I've had horrendous amounts of dental work over the years - as well as 8-10 oral surgeries, but I have never been afraid of the dentist. It helps that I've always had really good ones, I suppose. The latest one I have had for 38 years and I have forbidden him to retire!

Yeah, but dentists have the highest suicide rates of all professions. Something about rooting around in people's mouths all day.
