Diary of a Mad SAHM

Don't ask me - I just vent here.

Yee-hah.

This was a good week. First of all, March is definitely going out like a lamb, and Spring arrived in my neck of the woods. I'm a big fan of hanging clothes out to dry, and I got so caught up on laundry this week its ridiculous. Yay me.

Second, I took the girls out to the zoo with the help of their special ed teachers. The girls were so stoked to get out of the house, and loved every minute of their outing. AND they went on the pony ride! If I hadn't been there to see it with my own eyes, I'd have never believed it. Miss Princess was really excited to ride the pony, but when she began to ride away from me, she turned around and yelled, "MOMMMM..." so they brought her back.

But Dr. D. surprised us all. She got on the horse, said "yee-hah!" and rode off into the sunset. I don't usually do this, but I simply MUST share:

Try to ignore the overly-enthusiastic zoo employee, and focus on my daugther.

Then, we took the girls to Wendy's: If you're a regular here, you'll know of my recent struggles getting the girls to eat ANYTHING. But Miss Princess sat like a perfect little lady and ate french fries like she'd never eaten them before:

Can you fricken believe this??

So, I'm making plans to get the girls out a bit more over the summer months. Having their teachers with me made the outing SO stress free - its always nice when there are more adults than kids...usually, I'm outnumbered, and that leads to STRESS. But they took care of the girls, and I was able to take some great pictres, and enjoy the day. It was the BEST.
I've finally received all of the girls' evaluations, and am getting ready for their IEP meetings. I'm doing my homework, and getting ready to go in there and do battle.
April is Autism Awareness month by the way. Feel free to follow some of the Autism links in my sidebar on the right and learn more about this disorder that's afflicting more and more kids, and why we need to do something about it. And if you're feeling so inclined, do visit Ali Edwards' web site - Ali is a bit a "celebrity" in scrapbooking circles, and her son is autistic. She has a button on her blog to raise money for Autism Speaks (via sixdegrees.org); she's currently raised over $10,000, and stands to receive a matching donation to Autism Speaks - provided she has the highest number of donations by March 31.
OK, have a great weekend everyone - DH and I are heading into NYC tomorrow night to catch Down at Roseland Ballroom - we'll probably be the oldest folks in the fricken room, and I'm too damn old to mosh, but I don't care. Its going to be kick ass.

Well it sounds like you've had an encouraging week. I'm glad to read that things went well with the kiddos on their outings. To top it off it's Spring!

May you have a rockin' time seeing Down.

You're so right, it always goes better when there are more adults than kids. I know since I have 3 kids & have been a single parent for the last 6+ years!
Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I miss those days of the zoo. They were always so fun as a kid. I guess I'll have to wait another 10 years or so (until I have kids) to have a reason to go again.
    Here from Michele's!
