Friday Fodder
For those of you who turned in last week, let me catch you up: No, I never made it out for my Valentine's dinner. A winter storm dumped nearly two feet of snow in my area, so we spent most of Sunday digging out. I love it when the snow first falls...when everything is hushed by the new-fallen snow. Then I absolutely HATE the shoveling, the fighting to get my car out of the driveway because the plows have completely boxed me in. YICK. However, two days after the snow, temps went back up to the mid-50's and as a result, most of the snow is already gone.
Tomorrow night DH and I were scheduled to go out with some friends, but one of them works for NYC Sanitation and he's now working overtime on snow removal. But we've decided to take advantage of the fact that we've already got a sitter, and we're going out to dinner. Yay me. Can't wait.
In TV news, I'm glued to the Olympics. Mostly the skating and the snowboarding. WTF is "curling" anyway? I can't pull myself away from it, simply because it looks like men on ice...sweeping. Anytime you see a man with a broom in his hand its worthy of your attention, I think.
In other news, Valentine's Day was pretty uneventful, it being a weekday and all. DH brought home a box of Godiva for me (he said "the babies" bought it for me...awww). I'm trying to show some restraint and eat only one piece a day, but its "THAT TIME" of the month, and the chocolate is calling. Not to mention that DH was a smartie and got me a box of all dark chocolate. I remember reading somewhere that dark chocolate has heart-healthy effects, so I'm really doing myself a service by wolfing down the whole box of candy, right? Work with me, people.
I was also pleasantly surprised on Valentine's Day when Michele named me the "Site of the Day". If you've never visited Michele. Go. Now. Don't even finish reading this post. She's thoughtful, intelligent, witty, and has a great pair of gams. Anyway, over twenty people visited me on Valentine's day...so cool! I wish I'd known though. I don't normally blog during the week, and everyone who visited got to read my post from last Friday; its kind of like getting a bunch of unexpected visitors to your house when you've got dirty dishes in the sink and you haven't vaccuumed, know what I mean? Oh well.
We took the girls for RSV shots this week, one more to go before RSV season is over. The girls are getting old enough now to know that they are at the doctor, and that can't be good. We went on Monday, climbing over un-shoveled driveways and walkways, carrying the girls and trying not to fall on the ice. Once we got into the Dr.'s office, Miss S. started crying and wouldn't leave my side. Once she saw the doctor, it was really all over. The girls got one needle in each thigh, and we were off.
On Wednesday, I took Dr. D to get blood drawn. She is a freakin' terror. She took over the whole lab, walking around, flirting, smiling at everyone. And not listening to her mother, of course. She was most unhappy with me after that little adventure. Later I took Miss S. for a repeat on her hearing test; she did much better this time, she was much more responsive but they did find some fluid in her ear. I don't think there's anything wrong with her hearing, she listens to me better than her sister does.
Speaking of, the "terrible twos" are a-coming without a doubt. The other day I was hoarse from yelling at Dr. D. Some of the time, she's just so adorable; she's very nurturing and attached to her Sesame Street dolls - Burt and Ernie in particular. But there are times when I want to strangle her. She broke through the gates this week and knocked over my garbage can in the kitchen. I wanted to kill her. Best of all, she turns and looks at me with this look on her face as if to say, "what's the big deal?" Some days, its all I can do to get through the day till bedtime comes. Can a sister get an "Amen" from the crowd?
Here's this week's Friday's Feast for a change of pace:
Appetizer
If you were a color, which color would you be, and why? - Lavender. Because its peaceful, tranquil and understated. Like me. (Snicker)
Soup
When was the last time you went to the doctor, and what was your reason for going? - A couple of weeks ago. Dr. D. gave me the croup.
Salad
What do you collect? - Compliments! No, seriously. I collect fridge magnets. And scrapbooking swag.
Main Course
What were you like in high school? - "Middle of the road"...not quite a geek, but definitely not popular either.
Name one thing you miss and one thing you don't miss about those days. - I miss the absence of responsibility - no bills, no job, all disposable income. What I don't miss? The Sisters of Charity, the cliques, and homework!
Dessert
Pretend you're standing in front of your home, with your back towards your home. Describe the view - what can you see? Just my neighbor's houses. Pretty boring.

We've been making a very big fuss over the Olympics in our house. Since it comes along only every 4 years, we want the kids to remember it.
Tonight, we watched skeleton and snowboard cross. What wild sports! Even better, Canada won gold and silver in the men's skeleton. The kids were very proud.
Sigh....little moments. We'll shovel tomorrow.

Have your twins learned how to climb the dresser drawers yet? Mine did that right before they turned 2, and used the drawers as steps to get to what they wanted atop the dresser. Man, chasing after two that age was tiring!
