Sure, I lied, but that doesn't make me a bad person...
I'll get to that in a minute. Let me catch you up.
Mrs. F's birthday party was....interesting. I was told they'd hired a Spanish band, but it was a South American band. A salsa band I could have handled. This was some serious South American/bordering on tribal shit. It was horrible. No English was spoken. I sat with my relatives at the table and we all were kind of shrugging like, "The three years of High School Spanish I took didn't prepare me for this..." So the horrible music went on for about four hours, and it was so loud that you had to scream just to have a conversation with someone across the table. The party started at 9pm, by 1am they were cutting the cake. Mr. F told us that he had the place till 4am - I nearly passed out.
Then there was the "surprise" - Mrs F. told us about a "surprise" that she had for us. Well. Mrs. F. takes hip-hop dance classes at her local gym. She'd invited the gals from her dance class and they put on a little impromptu recital. It was...cringy to say the least. The median age for these gals must have been about 40; "Solid Gold" it wasn't. Mrs F. had invited just about everyone she's ever met to this little party. She had friends from high school, from JUNIOR high, from her job...in truth, she's never struck me as someone who was so self absorbed, but on this night, it really was ALL ABOUT HER. DH and I left at nearly 3am, and the girls were awake by 7:30am. Yikes.
Our Santa photo shoot at home didn't go very well, but I did get a usable shot. Its not great, but at this point I could give a shit less. There was no way I was going to try and get professional pics done a week before Christmas - that would have been suicide.
This weekend's festivities included a Christmas party at my good friend Danielle's house. However, Danielle is sick, and the party got cancelled. Bummer. However, since we already have the babysitting lined up, DH and I are going out for dinner and a movie. I didn't share this new detail with my mom (the babysitter), who would have still come over, but she would have complained about it (go figure). So I decided it was on a need to know basis. Does this make me a bad person? Maybe. But this bad person will be sitting in a nice restaurant on Saturday night, drinking a glass of wine and enjoying a big Italian meal.
Changing things up this week with the Friday Fiver, seemed relevant since DH took the day off to sit home and listen to Howard Stern's last show on terrestrial radio. And yes, he's been sucked into purchasing Sirius satellite, even though he already owns XM satellite to listen to Opie and Anthony. I told him he'd better get me a car kit for ONE of the boxes so that I can listen to uninterrupted 80's music in my car.
1. What's your favorite radio station? - WSOU - 89.5FM the radio station of Seton Hall University
2. How would you describe the format? - HARD rock/metal
3. Do you think satellite radio will become commonplace, like subscribing to cable TV? - I think it will become more commonplace and less of a luxury, especially since some car manufacturers are starting to install satellite as a standard feature.
4. Have you thought about buying a satellite radio subscription? - As stated, we've already got them both. I'm not terribly impressed.
5. When is the last time you said goodbye? - this morning to DH as I left to go food shopping

I share my birthday with two of my Crazies - which makes for a more rounded party, with three of us getting gifts and stuff! :-)
Came over from Michele's

That party sounds like a root canal w/o the novacaine. I don't think I'd call that lying & you most definately deserve a night out. If she gets upset, she won't babysit her granddaughters? HA! She's a Grandma, of course she will! Have a great time tomorrow night.
Michele sent me :)

I tend to listen to an Oldies radio station, although they don't vary the music much.

I felt pain behind my left ear as I read about the party. I think we've all been there, if not literally then at least in spirit.
Popped over from Michele's today. You never fail to make me laugh out loud. Great post!

As a Spanish speaker, I'd be curious to hear the band you described. It's hit or miss - much like either listening to Paul Westerberg (yeah!) or the solo album by that choad from Creed (ewwww.)
Trespassing via Michele- nice to meet you.
And like I told that other Sirius Satellite blogger, there is no way you could get me to pay for radio - Stern or no Stern.
:-)

well, *I* for one give you a hearty "way to go" on keeping the lack of party on the hush-hush.
Any chance your mom will babysit for me??? I have a few parties to not go to!!! HAH!
Mrs F... wow. that's all I can manage on that subject.
Anyways... from one Mad SAHM to another.. have a wonderful Christmas..... Squeeze the girls extra tight, and smile at all the dumb things your MIL ends up doing.... she is great blog material, afterall!!!
MUAH!

Did you enjoy that non-party? Hope it was fun! A night away from the kids always is. I adore 80's music and now my kids do too. So fun to watch them dance the the 80's tunes. Hope your holidays are marvelous!
