Friday Randomness

This week whipped by. Not enough hours in the day to get everything done.

Of course, I'm probably also watching too much fricken TV again. I've lately been glued to "Top Chef" on Bravo, and just started watching the newest season of "The Ultimate Fighter" - I love mixed martial arts, and "Deadliest Catch"...who knew that crab fishing could be so magnetic? This, along with my other addictions; speaking of - WTF was up with kicking Mandisa off "American Idol" this week?

The food wars continue at our house. I'm almost tempted to keep a list of foods that "work", but I'm kinda thinking that's a little too anal. Upon further reflection, I've decided that I'm hanging onto this thing too tightly (yeah. so what else is new??) I refuse to get pissed off about them not eating. A healthy child won't let themselves starve. Armed with this new wisdom, I've made a couple of changes (1) I simply place new things on their tray without a word, and wait for them to pick it up and try it...or not. (2) if they refuse to eat, all bets are off. They can wait till the next meal. (3) I've cut down on their afternoon snacks, in the hopes that they'll be hungry for dinner. My new strategy has been working pretty well: I managed to get them to eat hot dogs, chicken fingers and smiley fries. Big ups to my friend Danielle who gave me a list of new foods to try.

Now, ya'll know how pissed off I get when Noggin channel changes the schedule on me with no warning. Now DIY channel did it to me! Every day I put the girls down for their naps, grab some lunch, and settle in on the couch to watch ...what else?..."Scrapbooking". Well, they changed the fargin schedule, leaving me watching some dumb ass pottery show. It ain't right, I tell ya.

I got into a huge thing with some guy at AOL technical support this week. I wanted to cancel my AOL account (I never use it anymore). I had to wait in a virtual "queue" to chat real-time with an AOL support person, who gave me the super-secret phone number to AOL tech support. I waited on hold for ten minutes, then got some schmuck. He said that he could cancel my account, but since my account was paid through April, he wanted to send me an email, detailing how cool AOL really is. And if I REALLY REALLY wanted to cancel, I could just call back. AGAIN.

I felt the heat begin to rise up my neck. I said to schmuck-o "Listen. I don't want to call back and spent 15 minutes on hold. I want to cancel my account NOW. TODAY. Can you help me with that, or not?" He said, "Yes, I can help you with that ma'm, if you just calm down".

Well. That, as they say, was the end of that.

I went off the deep end. I slowly and clearly informed him that one of the things that you NEVER, ever tell a customer when they're pissed off is to calm down - because it only pisses them off more. As a former call center manager, I was happy to give him that little take-away, and then I told the little pissure that I was done with him, and wanted his manager.

Needless to say, AOL canceled my account. And I don't think they want me back anyway.

My MIL is taking the girls tomorrow and they are sleeping over at her house. DH and I are going out on a date night. I'm so excited! Speaking of, I have to go pack the girls clothes and stuff, so I gotta motor! Here's this week's Friday Fiver:

1. What's the weather like? - Things are warming up. Partly cloudy, mid-50's.
2. When is the last time you felt appreciated? - Just the other night, made DH's fave dinner and he was in heaven.
3. What is the last bad news you heard? - When we got the news that my BIL has MS.
4. What is your favorite sad song? - "Baker Baker" by Tori Amos.
5. Tell us about something you're obsessed with: SCRAPBOOKING!!!

You're kidding about Mandisa right? I can't say I've watched this season faithfully but I've heard her songs the last 2 weeks and they've been bad. Her country song literally made my ears bleed.

I'm really psyched that Deadliest Catch is on again. The first season was amazing and kudos to those guys who go out and do that cuz there is no way I could ever survive a night on one of those boats.

Just visiting from Michele's. Great post. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

I love how you handled AOL. I guess you don't have mail from them anymore. Yay!

I used to manage tech support help desks. I would revel in calling toll-free lines and informing them precisely what they were doing wrong.

I don't do that anymore, though. My wife put a stop to that. She was worried I'd make some of them cry.

    :)
