"Like A Caged Animal"...

I was so positive that Dr. D. was teething this week. She began the week with her hands in her mouth, nasty poop, and just being a cranky girl in general. Then her appetite went south, and my girl eats just about anything. Stupid me actually turned it into the throw-down the other night, forcing her to at least eat some applesauce, which she promptly puked up all over me. I've been trying not to sweat her, but last night for dinner she ate one banana and some Teddy Grahams. I kept telling myself, "she won't starve" and "she'll eat when she's hungry". Up until this afternoon, I was convinced it was just teething or some sort of food strike.

Then this afternoon, Miss S. woke up from her nap with 102 fever and puke in her bed.

Damn damn double damn.

I know for a fact that there's a nasty stomach virus going around. Cripes.

Yet another fringe benefit to having all these people in and out of my house. While the therapists always wash their hands before working with the girls, there's no way to stop them from bringing germs in. And you don't know if some sick kid mouthed their toys, then my kids pick the toys up and WHAMMO.

Looks like its the BRAT diet for us for the next couple of days. (That's Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast to the uninitiated). Super.

I'd also like to send a big "FU" to Noggin channel. I just hate hate hate when they mess with the schedule. The only way I know what time it is on any given day is by what's on the Noggin channel. Just when I get used to the schedule, they go and muck up the works. The least they could do is give a gal some notice; just a little blurb that says "HEY IDIOT girl! We're changing our schedule on Monday, so get prepared!" It's just one more example of "mommy brain" at work.

In other news, there was a news story this week about the New York MTA's habit of prohibiting people from taking pictures or video, particularly in commuter rail stations like Penn Station or Grand Central, which fall under the jurisdiction of the MTA Police, not the NYPD. The MTA at one point tried to ban unauthorized photography, specifically in the subways. That was back in 2004. But the backlash was so great, the proposal was dropped. That means photography and videotaping are perfectly legal anywhere in the system. But apparently, the NYPD are still stopping folks from taking pics in the subway, and the New York Civil Liberties Union is threatening to sue.

How idiotic is this. Has 9/11 faded so far in the collective consciousness that these sorts of things are up for debate? Mind you, I'm all for civil liberties; things like the Patriot Act really piss me off. And I don't pretend to be an expert on politics. But this is just complete bullshit. Folks are so concerned about their civil liberties being violated that they may as well put up a big sign that says, "ATTN: Al Queda: We're too stupid to protect ourselves. Come on back and hit us again". Photography shouldn't be allowed in our subways or on our bridges; I mean really - if you're a tourist and you're in NYC, there are LOTS of nicer places to waste your film.

Stepping down off my soapbox.

Here's this week's Friday Feast:

Hey Michele sent me and I'm glad she did. Don't have twins, (thank god, though I'm sure you love them to death!) but my youngest was severly globally delayed. Dealt with pt, ot, speech, aba, early intervention, and any other therapy you could think of. Works miracles and makes you want to pull your hair out by the roots. Keep calm, love your kiddies and at night, have a bubble bath. It gets easier as they grow. I promise.

A bug has been running rampant around here too. It waylaid our kids and my wife. I wonder how much longer I can hold out.

I hope good health returns to your home soon.

And as far as Al Qaida is concerned, they've won. If we look at the ridiculous things we've done since 9/11 in the name of "protection", we quickly realize that they've succeeded in tying up our resources on sheer stupidity.

    Bah!

I think I would let the DH take them a while and lock the door to the bathroom. I don't know if Calgon will do it, but I'd at least try. What a week. Next one can't possibly be anything but better.
    Here from Michele.
