Are the holidays over yet?
No?
Damn.
Ok. Well, here's this week's stats:
Total days Xmas tree decorated: 4
Total ornaments broken: 3
Dr. D. has had several time-outs, as she is the culprit of all broken ornamnents.
The germies have come to stay at my house. DH has been sick; by Wednesday I was sick -- off to the doc for some antibiotics and decongestant. By today, Dr. D.'s cold seemed to have evolved into something more, so off to the doctor we go. Naturally, the waiting room was full of germy kids with runny noses. And to make things extra fun, the TV in the waiting room was broken (and has been broken for a month, I might add). I mean, COME ON - its a PEDIATRICIAN'S waiting room...and you don't have a working TV? And you expect the sick, cranky runts to...what?....sit and quietly read Time Magazine?? WTF???
Anyway, Dr. D. has "a touch" of bronchitis. Now we're doing antibiotics, and the nebulizer -- Dr. D. is PISSED at her mommy. Alll I've done all day is shuttle her to the mean doctor, hold her down while she got prodded and poked, and then Mean Mommy forced her to take her meds, and practically sat on her for 20 minutes while sticking the nebulizer in her face. I told her, "Its ok to be mad - but we do this here, or we're going to have to do it at the hospital"...I don't think she quite got it.
...just like my telling her "look at the Christmas tree with your eyes, don't touch with your hands" isn't quite getting though.
In other news I'm loving my new camera - still haven't figured out the whole thing, but I'm doing ok with the basics. I've already taken some really nice pics. And I LOOOVE the way it feels, love the way it sounds - the reassuring "click" of the shutter. Damned if I don't feel like the paparazzi.
The paperwork has been submitted for the girls' CPSE - meaning the transition to preschool. I'll be spending the next couple of weeks preparing for the girls' evaluations (which will NOT be done by Early Intervention - WHY did I think that the Board of Ed would take EI's word for it?), we'll have to set up an appointment for the eval, and then the first couple weeks of January will be spent visiting preschools. I'm already stressing about this - what questions to ask, and ensuring that I pick the best school for the girls. And lets not even discuss what will happen if I don't get the girls into my first choice school.
I need a Lexapro. I need to breathe.
I need Christmas to come and go so that I can pack this fecking tree back up in the boxes and stick it in my attic for another year.
Thanks for listening. Here's the Friday Feast as my little way of saying "thank you":
Appetizer
What was your very first job with a paycheck? - I did clerical work for a small company that sold copiers. Man, those were the days. And btw, a big shout out to my former boss Fran (aka "Dragon lady"); she was a huge pain in the ass, but looking back, I can't believe she didn't fire me I was so damn irresponsible. Even I would have fired me.
Soup
Did you ever lose something really important to you? - My self respect? Don't worry. I got it back.
Salad
What is the best Christmas present you ever received? - Well, my new Canon Digital Rebel Xti is pretty fecking sweet.
Main Course
Tell about a favorite "hang out" place for you and your friends when you were in high school. - hmmm. "the pit" - right near the gym.
Dessert Name
something that always brings a smile to your face. - My girls.
Damn.

A pediatrician's office with no TV? I'd lug MY OWN into the place to pacify those poor kids. . . and their parents. Sorry, but Highlights for children doesn't cut it, Goofus and Gallant aside.

the first christmas tree casualties were the batman & robin ornaments that the kids kept wanting to play with. eventually, the dog made a snack out of them.
... and that 'first choice school' business always works out. there's always a suitable alternative and in hindsight you always find something about your first choice that sucks.
