Diary of a Mad SAHM

Don't ask me - I just vent here.

Sick. And Tired.

Can't believe its November, and I'm already looking at Christmas toy commercials. GACK.

The Halloween party at my BILs house was a success - and the decision to spend the night at a nearby hotel (rather than crash at my BILs house) was the smartest thing I've done in a while. Last year, I slept (if you want to call it that) on a nasty futon, woke up feeling 80 years old with a hangover, and drove back home smelling like stale cigarettes. This year, DH and I had a peaceful night's rest in luxurious beds (yes. beds. the room came with two queen beds, so I kicked DH to the curb and decided to hog the whole bed for myself). I got up the next morning, took a hot shower, had a nice little continental breakfast, and headed home clean, fresh, and relaxed.

The girls were wonderful for my mom - a complete surprise. I'd left my mom our car seats in case there was a complete meltdown, and she had to bring the girls back home to my house to sleep in their own beds. I called my mom at 10pm, and I was so relieved when she answered the phone! The girls went right to sleep without a problem. Just when I think I have those girls nailed, they go and surprise me.

I got sick the Friday before the Halloween party - so I did a short course of antibiotics -- and couldn't drink any cocktails at the party - damn. We keep passing the germs around - the girls keep sneezing in my face. Each morning after the girls leave their bedroom, I'm throwing the windows open...then when the girls go up for their nap, I throw the windows open downstairs in an effort to chase the germies out. This morning, I woke up feeling like absolute shit. And you know the rule - mommy isn't allowed to be sick. So I had to churn through my day regardless - all I wanted to do was lay on the couch, but the girls wouldn't allow me. Dr. D. kept throwing things over the gates, and Miss Princess S. kept smacking me in the face, looking for me to play with her. So then I feel sick, and I feel like a bad mom.

And finally, I'm now bribing my kids to eat. Its become a sad situation. First off, I've discussed Princess' eating issues at length. My mistake has been that once I find something that works, I work it until it doesn't work anymore. Lately, it has been PB&J. And as i'd feared, Princess has given up on it. Dr. D. is picking up the same bad behavior, and last week ate only flavored applesauce. So, on the advice of our speech therapist, I've begun bribing them -- true behavior modification. I got some cute Dora and Backyardigans stickers, and if they take a bite of their food, they get a sticker. So far, its been successful, but its fucking exhausting.

Mommy needs a vacation. And antidepressants.

Here's this week's Friday Fiver:

1) Tell us about where you live:- my house is amazingly small. And I'm a packrat. A bad combination.
2) If you could change one thing about your home, what would it be? - MORE CLOSETS
3) Do you do laundry on a regular schedule? - I have twins. You figure it out.
4) Describe the place that you sleep - Queen size bed, down comforter, teeny tiny bedroom.
5) This morning: was it easy or difficult to start the day? Amazingly difficult.

Sucks you were sick before Halloween. But, it sounds like you had a nice Halloween nonetheless.

I survived raising the World's Pickiest Eater...at one point we had a chart, and if he went a whole week and at least tried the food he was given, he got a G.I Joe. I think it worked for 3 weeks...From 2 until he was 14, I think he lived on mac & cheese, garlic bread. pepperoni pizza, and frozen yogurt...I'm amazed he made it to 23.

Well, at least you had one night away - maybe you can have a real vacation sometime soon.
Michele sent me (though my comment ended up in a very funny place, her comments seem to be a bit messed up).

I hope that you and the children will feel better soon, and that the children will decide to eat everything mommy puts before them. Good luck with that!

I'd rather look at toy commericals than political ads

I'm so glad your night away was so peaceful. Kids can be so surprising that way: but at least it was a good-surprise and not a bad one. They seem to do that for grandma: it must be a universal code or something. They're angels with our parents, too. I wish I understood it better so that I could replicate it more often. Then we'd get more nights away alone together.

Too bad life doesn't work like that. Darn!

I know how you feel! My daughter brings germs home from school and about the time they've made the rounds through the house she's bringing home the next bug. I feel like we are destined to be sick all winter. I hope everyone in your house is feeling better soon! How nice to have an evening away! And it makes it so much nicer when you know your kids have been good!

    Knock knock...

You've been quiet for a bit. Thought I'd drop in to see how you are.
